Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information Cadent collects, why it is collected, and what happens to it. Cadent is provided by Jack Leeming ("we", "us", "our").

Summary

Account information

To create an account you provide an email address. You can register using an email address and password, Google Sign-In, or on iPhone, Sign in with Apple. If you use Sign in with Apple and select Hide My Email, we receive only the relay address Apple generates and not your own address. You may also provide a display name, which is optional.

Workout information

If you grant Cadent access to Apple Health on iPhone, or to Health Connect on Android, we import your workouts. For each workout we store the information your device recorded, which may include:

We also store the activity, target, period and year of each goal you create, and whether you are currently tracking it. If you send feedback through the app, we store your message and your account email address so that we can reply.

Location and route data

Cadent displays maps of your outdoor workouts. The route is read from Apple Health or Health Connect and stored with the workout in your account, so its map appears on any device you sign in on. A route shows where a workout took place, which can include places such as your home, so it is stored with the same access controls as the rest of your account and is visible only to you.

On iPhone, if the app that recorded a workout did not save its time zone, Cadent asks Apple's location service for the time zone at the route's starting point, so the workout shows the local time it took place.

Crash reports and app usage

If Cadent runs into an error or closes unexpectedly, it sends a crash report to Sentry, a service that collects these reports for us. A report describes the error and where in the app it happened, and includes the app version, your device model and operating system version, the last few things done in the app beforehand (such as the screens opened), and an identifier for your account, so that we can tell how many people a problem affects. It does not include your email address, your name, screenshots or any workout information.

Cadent also records each day on which you open it, along with the app version, your device model and operating system version. We combine these records with counts taken from the information already in your account, such as how many workouts and goals it holds, to see how many people use Cadent and which parts of it they use. We look at these figures as totals across all users. They are not shared with anyone.

What we do not collect

Cadent contains no advertising software and no third-party analytics software. We do not build advertising profiles and we do not track you across other apps or websites.

On iPhone, Cadent requests access to workouts, their routes, and the heart rate, energy and distance recorded during them. On Android, it requests access to the same information in Health Connect: exercise sessions and their routes, heart rate, distance, energy burned and steps, including workouts recorded more than 30 days before you connected. It does not read other categories of health data, and it does not write any data to Apple Health or Health Connect. It does not request access to your device's location, contacts, photos or microphone.

Cadent's use of information received from Health Connect follows the Health Connect Permissions policy, including its Limited Use requirements. That information is used only to show you your workouts and your progress towards your goals. It is never used for advertising, never sold, and never shared except with the service providers listed below who store it for us.

How we use this information

We use it to provide the app by storing your workouts and goals and making them available across your devices, to authenticate you when you sign in, to send account emails such as registration confirmation and password resets, to find and fix faults, to understand how the app is used so that we can improve it, and to respond to feedback and support requests.

We do not use your information for any other purpose, and we do not sell or rent it to third parties.

Legal basis for processing

Where the UK GDPR or the EU GDPR applies, our legal basis for processing your account, workout and goal information is the performance of our contract with you, since the app cannot provide its service without it.

Our legal basis for crash reports and app usage records is our legitimate interest in keeping the app working and improving it. They contain no workout information, and we have limited them to what that requires.

Workout information is health-related data, which receives additional protection. We process it on the basis of your explicit consent, which you give by granting Cadent access to Apple Health or Health Connect. You may withdraw that consent at any time: on iPhone in the Health app under Sharing, and on Android in Health Connect under App permissions. Withdrawing it prevents further imports; workouts already imported remain in your account until you delete them.

Service providers

We use the following third parties to operate the app. None of them are advertising networks.

International transfers

Our database is hosted in the Southeast Asia region, so your information is stored outside the United Kingdom and the European Economic Area. Crash reports are stored in the European Union. Where we transfer personal data internationally we rely on appropriate safeguards, including the standard contractual clauses offered by our hosting provider.

Retention and security

We keep your workouts, routes and goals until you delete them or delete your account. Deleting your account removes your account, its associated data, its app usage records and its stored files. Crash reports are deleted by Sentry after 90 days. Our hosting provider retains backups for a limited period, after which those copies are also removed.

Information is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored with access controls that prevent one account from reading another account's data. No online service can be guaranteed completely secure, and we limit the information we hold to what the app requires.

Your rights

You can export your full workout history as a spreadsheet from within the app, edit workouts you added manually, delete individual workouts, and delete your account and its data from Settings. Imported workouts should be corrected in the app or device that recorded them.

If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, you also have the right to access your personal data, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to receive it in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@cadentapp.net. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority, which in the United Kingdom is the Information Commissioner's Office.

Children

Cadent is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it was last changed. Where a change is significant, we will also note it in the app's release notes.
